If you ask the Guests at Independent Adult Day Centers what they enjoy most about visiting our Centers, they may say the food – or maybe it’s the frequent community outings or the daily arts and crafts, exercise, or spending time with their friends. Either way, our Guests enjoy staying active and having fun at Independent Adult Day Centers!
Independent Adult Day Centers offers a daytime, non-residential Adult Day Service program. It allows our Guests to live at home but visit one of our three Indianapolis area Centers during the day when at-home caregivers are unable to meet their individual health or personal needs due to work or other commitments.
While at our Centers, you can feel good knowing your loved one is enjoying friendships, engaging activities, outings, meaningful moments and so much more. At IADC, we host concurrent activities throughout the day to promote Guests’ freedom of choice and independence.
How We Choose Our Activities
At Independent Adult Day Centers, we look to our Guests to decide what kinds of activities and outings we provide. We want to make sure that our activities can accommodate and stimulate the variety of Guests we service. It’s part of our person-centered care model that puts our Guests’ needs first.
When a Guest starts Adult Day Services at one of our Centers, we perform a Lifestyle Enrichment assessment to learn about the types of activities the Guest enjoys. We create our monthly activities schedules based on the interests, abilities and preferences of our Guests as expressed in their initial assessment and in ongoing Guest Satisfaction Surveys. Tailoring our program to our Guests, and offering a choice of suitable activities during each activity window gives our Guests a sense of autonomy and allows them to participate in meaningful and enjoyable activities. New activities and outings are being added at all of our Centers frequently.
Lifestyle Enrichment Activities at Independent Adult Day Centers
Our community outings are one of our Guests’ favorite activities. We offer various, scheduled outings each week, giving our Guests an opportunity to go shopping, dine at restaurants and see various shows. Outings provide our Guests with the opportunity to remain an active part of the community around them. As with anything we do at Independent Adult Day Centers, there are many options for essential outings, so Guests can feel free to choose an activity that best suits their interests.
Whole Person Wellness
We offer activities to promote and facilitate physical activity. Our program includes daily scheduled exercise. We offer yoga, Tai Chi, walking clubs, dancing, stretching and chair exercises.
Our cognitive activities include games and puzzles daily, and we have a LearnFIT program that focuses on learning new skills such as quilting, technology and genealogy. Meanwhile, our hand massage and spa treatments promote relaxation, improve our Guests’ self-esteem and decrease anxiety and stress.
We promote spiritual well-being through the use of Bible studies, devotions, tranquility programs, rosary service, and relaxation or meditation programs.
Concurrent Activities Throughout the Day
With more than one activity happening during each activity window, we have something that is rewarding and interesting to your loved one throughout the day, and offer choice and the opportunity for self-direction.
We help promote creative expression through several media. Three times weekly, art projects are offered to foster creative skills in painting, sculpting, pottery, photography, sewing, jewelry making, scrapbooking and creative writing, to name a few.
We also keep our Guests engaged through cooking and baking, arts and crafts, movies, gardening, and animal and horticultural therapy.
Self-initiated Stations with No-fail Concept
Our self-initiated stations promote enhanced fine motor skills, concentration, and self-esteem. These stations offer engagement that takes place through repetitive, no-fail methods offered daily in separate stations. Throughout the Centers, you will see the art studio, billiards, sewing area, and quiet relaxation room – all examples of self-initiated stations.
Studies have shown that people who suffer from dementia can benefit from spending time away from their home. It’s shown to reduce sundowning anxiety and promote a better night’s sleep. Independent Adult Day Centers is proud to offer those with dementia or Alzheimer’s with activities specifically geared toward them.
